K-9 Division

Police K9 units are integral parts of law enforcement agencies, providing valuable assistance in various tasks such as patrol work, narcotics detection, search and rescue operations, and more. These highly trained dogs and their handlers work together to enhance public safety and support the overall mission of the police department.

Police K9 teams, like Sergeant Trenton Cowan & K9 Tyson, undergo rigorous training and certification processes. They are trained in several areas, including:

  • Patrol Work: Skills include tracking suspects, apprehension, and handler protection.
  • Narcotics Detection: Identifying illegal drugs through their keen sense of smell.
  • Search and Rescue: Locating missing persons in various environments.

K9 units help locate evidence, track suspects, and provide officer protection.

They are invaluable in finding lost or missing persons, especially in difficult terrains.

The police K9 units often conduct demonstrations to educate the public about their role and capabilities. These demonstrations showcase the skills and training of the K9s, providing an opportunity for community engagement and education.

For more information about our K9 unit or to request a demonstration, please contact the Greenwood Police Department. We are proud of our K9 team and their contributions to maintaining safety and order in our community.
