School Resource Officers

Implementing School Resource Officers (SROs) in schools across the country has become one of the fastest-growing areas in law enforcement. This unique position fosters a positive image of law enforcement among the youth in our communities. SROs play a crucial role in building relationships with students and staff, providing a sense of security, and serving as a liaison between the school and the Greenwood Police Department. By being present in schools, SROs help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community, while promoting trust and cooperation.

SROs participate in specialized training courses conducted by both law enforcement and education professionals. These courses are specifically designed to help SROs transition into the school environment effectively. SROs learn and carry out the “Triad” concept, a framework developed by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) which defines three main roles of a SRO: educator, counselor and mentor, and law enforcement officer.

The Greenwood Police Department partners with the Greenwood School District to protect our students and faculty alike, striving to create a safe and secure learning environment.  The Greenwood Police Department employs SROs at each school campus, while working and training in conjunction with Commisioned School Security Officers (CSSOs).
